Student Learning Objective: Visually simplify yourself into an Avatar that fits into the identity of a larger online community while still representing a individual characteristic of yourself. You will design your avatar, and then choose one of the following stretch goals (or more if you want!):
Assignment Guidelines: 1.) Choose a online community (message forum/social media/video game platform) that you would use for your avatar. - How does your avatar visually work well for the intended online community? - How does your avatar visually represent your individual personality? 2.) Design uses Proportion/Variety. - How will you balance the use of BIG, medium, and small shapes in your design? - How will you effectively use colors and gradient effects? 3.) Design uses simplification (abstraction). - How did you visually push the design of your face, body, clothes? -Do you have a strong/clear silhouette? 4.) Design uses three or more unique/individual highlights. - How does your facial feature, posture, clothing, accessory, expression, etc.. help support your chosen expression or character trait? 5.)Written Reflection on your finished Avatar, and how it effectively meets or exceeds the assignment guidelines. Google Slide ResearchLearning Objective: Students will explore the internet and collect images that inspire them as part of the creative process for the Avatar assignment. Research: Page 1 of Google Slides: collect at least 10 different inspiration images for your avatar. You can reference cartoons, bitmojis, other avatar designs, etc. Page 2 of Google Slides: Find different examples of emotions that you would be interested in creating for your avatar's emojiis (facial expressions) Sketch: Sketch 4 versions of your avatar. Practice different proportions, outfits, etc. These sketches can be as detailed or rough as you like. Be sure to photograph your sketches so that you can turn them in later! Design Specifications: Create a new document that is 11 inches x 17 inches LANDSCAPE style for your art board size. Avatar examples
