Tiny Planets
Students will use their own panorama photo and use the polar coordinate filter to wrap their photo into a "tiny planet."
STUDIO PORTRAITS
Learning Objective: Students will use the East gallery as their "photography studio" and shoot a series of portraits that demonstrate their understanding of lighting and photoshop editing techniques.
Photo Grid Safari
Students will create a "photo grid" artwork that focuses on the principles of composition by finding abstract images in the environment around them and use Photoshop editing techniques to create feeling of overall unity in their grid. Students looked closely at the world around them, and tried to capture photos that represent the same type of compositions as the squares on the Photo Safari worksheet.
Impossible Photography
Students created photo composites in Adobe Photoshop using masks and layers to create an "impossible dream scene." The key was to maintain a level of realism so that the viewer is encouraged to look twice. Students shot their own photographs and then supplemented their work with online images. The scene focused on the compositional element of foreground, middle ground, and background to create a feeling of depth.
Photoshop Dream Scene with free stock images
Students used images from royalty free stock image websites and created their own "dream scene" using Adobe Photoshop. This activity was used a skill-building lesson to prepare students for the Impossible Photography assignment in which they will take their own photos to use in their artwork.
Double Exposure Photography
Learning Objective: Students will create a mutli-layered image with a strong composition that demonstrates transparency and a connection between layers.
This assignment was the beginning Photo Student's first experience creating artwork using masks, layers, and blending modes in Adobe Photoshop. They learned the basics of how to create a double exposure image by following along the video tutorial recorded by Ms. Walsh. Once students got the hang of the digital technique, they were excited to go out and take their own photos to use for their own unique double exposure portrait.
